One of the world's great sporting traditions, with Oxford and Cambridge battling for victory on the Thames. Following on from the tradition started in 2015, the women's race will again take place on the same course as the men's Boat Race, with the women's taking place at 2.15pm, followed by the men at 3.15pm.
The Boat Race course, known as the Championship Course, is 4 miles, 374 yards or 6.8 Km long. It stretches between Putney and Mortlake on the Thames in South West London. This course was first used for the Boat Race in 1845 and has been used for every race since. The event is a great day out and is watched by thousands along the banks of the Thames.
Cambridge currently lead Oxford in the men's race by 83 to 80 in the men's race so Oxford will undoubtedly be trying to narrow the gap again this year!
Getting there: The route gets very busy with spectators (especially near the many riverside pubs at Putney, Hammersmith, Barnes and Chiswick). There will also be 'Boat Races in the Park' events in Bishops Park, Fulham and Furnival Gardens, Hammersmith which will feature big screens showing the race. The tube is still the best way to get to and from the course so pick a spot and try to get there early!
