Yorkshire's biggest city, Leeds, is the heart of West Yorkshire. It is a good place for shopping, eating and drinking, and is home to the interesting Royal Armouries, which covers 3000 years of British fighting history.
Just out of town, you can visit Kirkstall Abbey, one of Britain's most well-preserved medieval abbeys, and the grand 18th century house and gardens of Harewood House.
Heading west into the Pennines you reach the cobbled village of Haworth, where the Bronte sisters spent the majority of their lives. The parsonage where they lived and wrote all of their famous works is now a popular museum.
