A short hop across the Solent from either Portsmouth, Southampton or the small village of Lymington, just outside the New Forest, the Isle of Wight is a popular seaside get-a-way.

From classic British seaside scenes of buckets-and-spades and endearingly tacky amusement arcades, to uber-trendy music festivals and upmarket sailing regattas, to dramatic white cliffs, beautiful walking and biking trails and quiet stretches of yellow sand, the Isle of Wight offers a little bit of everything.

The key cultural sights on the island include: Osborne House, built by Queen Victoria and where she spent much of her time following the death of Prince Albert; Carisbrooke Castle, where Charles I was imprisoned before his execution; and the well-preserved mosaics at Brading Roman Villa.
