Christmas Markets and Fairs

As the days get shorter and the temperature drops, thoughts inevitably turn to Christmas, the biggest festival in the British calendar.

In recent years Christmas markets and fairs have sprung up in many towns and cities with stalls selling all manner of gifts and food as well as many traditional types of entertainment.

The Christmas markets in some cities opt for a continental theme, such as in French, German or Italian. There are traditional German markets in Birmingham, Bournemouth, Leeds, London, Glasgow and Oxford. A comprehensive list of Christmas markets across the country can be found on the link below.

More traditionally British Christmas events are:

Bath Christmas Market – 24 November to 11 December

One of the largest Christmas markets in the country, over 150 wooden chalets fill the historic centre of Bath, between stunning Bath Abbey and the Roman Bath House, selling gifts, decorations food and drink. You can’t help but get in the festive mood at this beautiful market. No tickets required.

Ludlow Medieval Christmas Fayre – Saturday 26th and Sunday 27th November

With stalls selling seasonal gifts, food and drink throughout the impressive castle, Ludlow fayre offers “medieval fun for knights and damsels of all ages”. Various entertainments will also be put on, including music, knights in combat and fire juggling.

Tickets cost £9.50 for adults and £5.50 for children on Saturday, £8.50 for adults and £4.50 for children on Sunday (under 5s free).

Skipton Yuletide Festival & Christmas Market – Sunday 4th and Sunday 11th December

Taking over the high street of this Yorkshire Dales market town, Skipton's Yuletide Festival & Christmas Market is a lively mixture of stall, food, drink and entertainment. Running for over 20 years, this is one of the country’s most established Christmas fairs. No tickets required.
